OTTAWA -- Loverboy and Colin James are just two of the names slated to headline this year's Tulip Festival, which runs May 11-21.
Concert website Pollstar.com reports that Loverboy, back on the road with a new bass player, is scheduled to play May 19 at Major's Hill Park, with James, touring in support of his latest effort, Fuse, on the bill to perform May 21.
When told of Pollstar jumping the gun on announcing the two acts -- along with Maritime celt-pop act The Barra MacNeils and American alt-country couple Buddy and Julie Miller -- Tulip Festival artist director Joe Reilly remarked with a dash of disgust:
"We're announcing our lineup (today) at 2 p.m. That's when we'll confirm or indicate anything that is posted on Pollstar is correct or incorrect," he said.
Reilly wouldn't comment on any more of the Tulip fest Lineup.Canuck rock legends Loverboy hit it big with songs such as Turn Me Loose, Working for the Weekend and Lovin' Every Minute of It, selling more than 23 million records. The band reunited in the late 1990s, playing smaller venues across North America.
Late last fall, bass player Scott Smith was swept overboard by an eight-metre wave off the coast of Los Angeles. A coast guard search for Smith came up empty. The band annouced earlier this year that Winnipegger Ken "Spider" Sinnaeve, who previously played with Loverboy guitarist Paul Dean and drummer Matt Frenette in the original lineup of Streetheart, had joined the band.
