I attended Saturday's show in Anderson, IN at the State Theatre. Approximately 500 in attendance. The band opened up with Notorious. The set was almost two hours in length. Doug Johnson opened up the encore by playing the Charlie Brown theme song! The encore was Lovin' Every Minute Of It. Midway through the song, they broke into Superstition by Steview Wonder and then into Come Together by The Beatles. It was very cool! This marks the seventh time I have seen the band, with the previous being 1983, 1986, 1995, 1997, 1998, and 2000. I can honestly say that this was the best peformance I have attended. For starters, the venue was fantastic. An 1,100 seat theatre from the 1920's. Acoustics were awesome and the sound was just right, not too loud. I know a lot has been said about Mike Reno being out of shape. Whom among us have not changed from the 1980's? I know I have. However, Mike was the trimmest I have seen him since the '86 show. You could tell the weight loss made a difference in his performance. He was moving all over the stage and was very energetic. He also spoke a good deal throughout the show. No mention of the new live album or any upcoming projects. The rest of the band were energized as well. Spider played a 5+ minute bass solo and clearly demonstrated that he is a very talented bass player. Immediately after the show, Matt F. came to the front of the stage and signed autographs for everyone. The rest of the band left the stage. Matt was very polite and approachable. What amazed me the most was how a band that has been together for 20+ years could sound every bit as good as in their "prime", if not better. Mike hit every single note and his voice was clear as a bell. It would be an absolute shame if Loverboy is not given the opportunity to put out another album of new material. Fantastic show!! I hope they come through the Indianapolis area again next year. 5 out of 5 stars.
