My experiences were about the same as yours. Mom would cut Ivory soap, into sticks that resembled a finger. They were made from the long side of the bar of Ivory.
When one was to be used on one of my sisters or me the soap stick would be placed into a warm glass of water and taken to the bathroom where mom, aunt or grandmother would take the recipient to then place us over their lap. I would beg the administrator to use an enema instead of the soap stick which fell on deaf ears. Ater my panties were pulled down to my knees the soft soap stick was taken and slowly inserted until an inch was still exposed. As the soap stick burned and began to move my bowels the stick was slowly backed out and wetted and reinserted with a twisting motion.
I squirmed and begged to use the toilet but was told that the treatment must last 10 minutes. The last couple of minutes I or my sisters would begin to cry. Finally, I was allowed to go and usually exploded emtying my bowels. I remember my bottom burning for a couple of hours after the treatment.
I no longer use them.
