I also lived in an old house. Mom inserted suppositories in the kitchen. Mom's friends were sometimes in the audience where they watched and hear the crying. It was very embarrassing.

Enemas were also given in the kitchen as a bathroom was next to the kitchen. Aunts, sisters and neighbors were sometimes in attendance. Couldn't be more embarrassing but was an effective punishment.
