The gilded edges of his brilliant scales glinted brightly in the fading sun as the dragon moved to lay down beside his mate, his tail twisting possessively about her own. It was true, his son had done well, this fact reflected by the proud glimmer in the father's fluorescent gaze.

Pleasure suffused through him, spreading like a warm tide over chilled sands. A chirp emitted from his maw, much like the sound a hatchling would make when utterly content. As the food was offered, he accepted, delicately stripping the carcass clean. Ignoring his father's presence for the moment, he claimed the spot on her other side, his head pressing against hers affectionately.
