Hello,
I am not sure that this will reach anyone that will relay it to
them, but I just wanted to write to let you know of a little 7 year
old that was very disappointed by Eiffel 65.
Recently our town, Springfield, MO put on a concert called Dare to
Care. It is put on by the Dare officers in our community. Seven bands
attended, and Eiffel 65 was the main draw. My daughters wanted to go,
and with the 12 year old, I was ok, but my other daughter is seven,
and I was a little leery to say the least, of taking her to a concert
at her age. She begged and pleaded, because Eiffel 65 was going to be
there, and they are her "Favorite Band"
To quote, "I have to go, Eiffel 65 is my favorite band, they sing
blue, I just have to see them." Needless to say, I relented and took
her along.
She liked the other bands, but it was Eiffel 65 that she wanted to
see. Of course since they were the big draw, they were the last band.
She sat patiently by me for hours waiting to see them. She never asked
to go out to the floor to dance, never asked to go get anyone's
autograph, just sat there patiently until they came on, which for a
seven -year old is a feat in itself.
When they finally came out she could barely contain her
excitement, she sang and danced, and since she plays their CD ALL of
the time, knew all of the words to the songs.
Before they finished playing, she asked if she could get there
autograph. They had a booth set up for just this purpose. I told her
that if she wanted to do that, we would have to go and get in line
then, which meant she would have to miss the last of the show, she was
very torn, but decided the autograph was more important.
We went to the tent to stand in line for an autograph, by this
time it was about 9:45, you would have expected her to be starting to
get grouchy, and not behave in the line, but once again, she knew we
would leave if she did, so she patiently stood for an hour and a half,
waiting for that prized autograph, not complaining about having to
stand there holding her water, jacket, and blanket, just excited.
Eiffel 65 finally came out, and she was so happy, but to her
disappointment, the were only there for a few minutes, and left. Have
you ever seen a look of total dejection, all that waiting, all that
excitement, all of that standing, for NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!
To say she was disappointed is an understatement, she cried big
crocodile tears, but like a true fan, when mom started bad-mouthing
them for not taking the time to sign autographs of people who would
stand in line for 1 1/2 hrs, just for them to scrawl some illegible
mark on a piece of paper and saying that she would send them a nasty
letter, she just said, "No mommy, I like them, I don't want to hurt
there feelings." This child that was so devastated by them, still was
thinking they were the greatest.
Now, just from MOM, I would like to say, that what makes a band,
is the fans, if they don't take time for the fans, then how do they
think they will continue to "ride the wave". If the fans are
disappointed, they will not buy the records, they will not come to the
shows, and the band will no longer make the money that they are making
only because of their fans.
With the naivety of a seven year old, they may still be GREAT and
WONDERFUL, but with adults, it may be a different story. And remember
the seven year old isn't the one buying the music, their parents are.
