Subject: Tourney Champs

Over the weekend we played our basketball post-season conference tournament, and I am happy to report we came out on top – we took home first place.

The tournament was played over four days with games Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday evening. We went into the tournament seated number 2 earning ourselves a first round bye. We did finish in first place in the Western division of our conference, but we did loose the regular season game to the winner of the Eastern division, so we were seated number 2.

Saturday we rolled winning 95-48, after the first couple of minutes the game was never in doubt. I had a great game scoring 26 points, blocking 8 shots and grabbed 10 rebounds. I made 6 free throws and ten 2-point shots.

The semi-final game Sunday was close in the first half, but it the second half we blew it open winning 80-62. I had a good performance scoring 18 points, blocking 4 shots and grabbing 6 rebounds. I made 4 free throw and seven 2-point shots.

Monday night we played for the championship, it was number one v. number 2 and we won 78-72. This game was close most of the way with numerous lead changes, but with about eight minutes to play we began to pull away. We nailed some key free throws late sealing the victory for us. I had a good game scoring 21 points, blocking 8 shots and grabbing 8 rebounds. I made two 3-point shots, 5 free throws and five 2-point shots.

After the game we had a great celebration on the floor and in the locker room – there was a lot of cheering going on. I was named to the all tournament team, and received my award for being named to the All-Conference team.

Leaving the court for the last time was hard, I can’t believe my college playing days are over. It has been four great years and I am so glad I decided to play college ball. At times balancing sports with school work was hectic, but in the end the work was worth it.

My school is on Spring Break this week (February 29th to March 6th), besides relaxing, I have been using the past few days getting caught up on my school work. After break, I plan to do some tutoring at the high school I practice taught at last fall, I am looking forward to it. Kala is doing her practice teaching at a middle school near our campus, she loves it. I also plan to attend some of tournament games the high school I taught at will be playing. I tried to attend some of the home game the high school participated in, and some of the player came to my home games, but our schedules did not always match.

Our Commencement is scheduled for April 30th, I can’t believe I just have a few weeks of college left until I graduate. I am getting calls to interview for some of the teaching and coaching positions I applied for. I bought a new suit, shirt, ties, shoes to get ready for the interviews. The next few weeks should be fun.
