Subject: Correction: National of Cdn military dependents
In reply to: Steve 's message, "Nationality status of "repatriated" military dependents" on 08:10:53 06/03/03 Tue

Correction of the email address:

I have done some research in irregularities of Canadian military dependents 1939-1948 and I can answer questions in that context ... but when it comes to English war brides and their children "repatriated" to Australia I have not one item, event, or any knowledge of. I do know there were 100,000 English war brides in total ... with 44,000 going to Canada alone, with 22,500 children, 550 children before November 1944 ... moved on military hospital ships ... at least one trip in 1942 [possibly Lady Nelson Hospital Ship] and at least two trips in 1943 [November and another December, Liverpool to Halifax on the SS Maurantia II, 35 & 36 voyage of the new two smoke stack ship, with an operating theatre abroad.]
I am looking to see photocopies of any "landing record" of women who were "repatriated" to Australia ... I looking for any references, official or otherwise, to any mention in the laws of Australia too, if anyone can assist me,
thanks.

I am the first born , legitimate, daughter of a Canadian soldier, I was born in England and we were reunited with dad in Canada, mum took me and my sister and brother...(born in Canada), back to England, and left dad. I was told he was dead, but many years later found him and we reunited, after 40 years. I am here on extended stay, have been trying since 1991 to get my Canadian status, having been born "under the canadian flag", seems I must be resident here for a year and then apply, does this mean I have to be a permanent resident ?? Have been writing to so many people, cannot get any guide-lines on how to procede. I have info. I could send you if you reply to this. My dad is still alive and kicking....in Mission, BC /hope to hear from you, any help will be appreciated Sheila Walshe
