'Paranoia' IS sometimes the same as 'awareness' -- if not by definition, then by usage. Anytime anyone shows any 'awareness', those who wish to dismiss the observations (aka practically everyone else) quickly label them 'Paranoid'. It's gotten to the point that the two are virtually synonymous. I must ask, what makes the difference between the two? Who decides WHO is 'aware' instead of 'paranoid'? Every aspect of your life doesn't have to be controlled by 'them' directly, but IF 'they' exist, 'they' certainly have some control over the things that do control your life -- in effect giving them control (to some extent) over your life... Look how much control over your life the gov't has -- now put someone in a position to control part of that gov't's laws (special interest groups do it all the time). Now say the 'Special Interest' has an 'anonymous' contributer who enables them to get their 'job' done more effectively... This is just a very elementary example of how each thing can be interconnected. Who pulls the puppetmaster's strings?
