I'd rather like to discuss the Holocaust. I see no reason not to tell Chex he's an idiot.(*thinks to self* I bet he thinks the moon landing was just a setup in the Mojave desert like half a dozen other willful morons out there, too.)

Let's face it. All is fair in love and war. Yes, Lincoln became something of a dictator. That is evident in many things that he did. But are we better for it? I think so. Where the hell would we be if it weren't for the Union victory? Just imagine the purgatory we'd be in. His only purpose in this war was to KEEP THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA together. The Emancipation Proclamation was, as Chex so eloquently put it, a war measure. But are we not better off for it? We could debate the "what if's" and "should haves" and "morality" of the Civil War until the earth explodes with all the hot air I've seen on this board. War IS NOT about MORALS. As General William Sherman put it, "War is hell". The Union was determined to keep the country together, after all the shit (pardon my French) their forefathers (and the South's) went through to break away from Britain and be their own people. Politicians, the Constitution, and the word-manglers and fact-omitters of today and all of history can go jump in a lake for all I care.

Ultimately, no one is perfect and not every decision can be a right one. We, as human beings, do the best we can to stand for what we believe in and protect it come hell or high water. Every president we have had has been a good one, in my humble opinion, each one making decisions for what he thought was for the good of the country. There are too many "what if's" to say if any of those could have turned out for better or worse, the opposite of the outcome.

The Civil War was just that, a civil war. Two parts of the country fighting against each other and tearing apart hundreds of years of blood and sweat and making that count for nothing. Over 620,000 men were killed in the Civil War and I think it best, for their souls and those today that are still up in arms about it, to drop this issue. None of us know politics well enough to debate this kind of thing. Hatred from over 100 years ago should not be fresh enough to affect us now. If we would stop dwelling on that terrible time and look at all the good it did for the country: the Civil Rights Movement, woman suffrage, racial equality under the eyes of the law, etc. then we'd all be happier people.

"White pride" is synonomous with "White trash", in my mind. Everyone, be they black, white, red, orange, or green is a minority of one. Now, before I switch topics completely and start arguing racial equality, I'm gonna stop here.

I refuse to debate the Civil War any longer. Take this not as a sign of retreat, but a sign of common sense.
