check it...i quit smoking the end of oct. i smoked between 1 and 2 packs a day for almost 7 years. and i am officially a non-smoker. all my friends still smoke. it is mind control. period. it only takes 7 days to be rid of the physical addiction to nicotine. 7 days ain't a long time baby...just make your mind up if you really wanna quit. if you don't want to quit...you won't. period. just do this...this is the best way to quit and it works...i did it. and i am/was/am an addict....bad.
ok....if you have a pack of cigs in your possesion you can do one of two things...finish it, or toss it.
either or...when the pack is gone...you are done.
give yourself a week...just one week...no longer of bumming one to two cigs a day. maximum!!
after that. stop
don't smoke at all.
if you take that one drag, whether it is at 7:00 am or 11:00 pm...you will want another
just wake up and don't smoke.
if you start to go crazy, chew gum. i replaced my cig addiction with an addiction for polar ice gum...which, btw, seems to be more potent than my ole camels.
if that doesn't help...and you aren't at work/school...go to sleep. or go for a walk.
find a project for your hands...i twirled a pen around my fingers for the first 2 weeks.
keep your mouth busy with the gum...your hands busy with the pen.
keep remembering how hard it is...then after day one with out a cig...realize that you never wanna go through that again.
do the same for day two.
no sneaking drags....it defeats the purpose.
once you have made it the 7 days without ANY nicotine...you are home free.
from here on out...it is all mental. you are over the physical addiction to nicotine.
just carry a pack of gum with you. everytime someone around you lights up, or you get in the car and wanna light up, or get stressed, or just freakin want a cig pop a piece of gum in your mouth. the stronger the gum the better...(why that is i don't know...but it worked for me and i tried and tried and tried many times before)
and yeah, i still want a cigarette sometimes, especially cause all my friends still smoke. just remember how freakin hard that first week was and that you never wanna go through that again. i will be honest...the first 4 days are awful...then the next 2 you will catch yourself forgettting to want a cig. the last day...day number 7...is the true test. since you have such a devout faith..you should have no problem. just think of how much money you will save for better things. I have already saved $265.00...heck yeah!! think of how good your breath will be (mainly cause you don't smoke...but also cause of the gum..peppermints help too, but gum works best.) and how good your clothes will smell. you never again will be a walking ashtray. your energy will shoot through the roof. hobbies are good too. and just know that this is something you can control. you are in charge here. no one can ever force you to smoke. not anyone...not even that little person inside you screaming for a marlboro. you control this. i have passed all the true smoker tests. i will be at my 3 month mark february 1st. that means the mental addiction is gone too. good luck. the decision is yours.
(geeezzzz, i sound like a friggin truth commercial.)

ps. this is one more thing...i constantly brag on myself to any non-smokers that i know. they offer more support than anyone. even if i just told someone 5 minutes ago that i quit...i will tell them again if i feel like i need a cig. that comes to the pride thing. if you announce to everyone that you quit...then you are less likely to start back cause you don't wanna look like a fool...i'm not normally one who cares one little bit what others think...but the first thing that happens when you say you quit is that people wonder...ok, but for how long...or.....yeah right. prove the neysayers wrong. prove that you have the power. peace and love to you....and there is no time like the present.
paz y amor....an ex-smoker
