L’van grinned, accepting the egg gratefully, and swatting at the low-flying bronze. “Thankyou, milady!” He murmured. He laid the egg in front of him and, true to his wish, fragments of the shell fell away to reveal a gold hatchling, with a slender, long body. He took out some meat, and she struck like a snake. L'van laughed, andlooked into her eyes. “Nagaina.” He told her. “Your name is Nagaina.” He placed her on his shoulder, where she fell asleep.
He rose, and bowed to the queen, scratched Bandar’s eye ridge, and then bowed to the queen’s human. “It was a pleasure to meet you. Thankyou for this gift.” He looked adoringly at Nagaina. Together, they went back to weyrlings training.

((Now my Jungle Book theme is underway! I took names from the Jungle Book, you see. Bandar = Monkey, Mang = Bat, Gidur = Jackal, and Nagaina = Female cobra!))
