A tall awkward girl walked to the clutch. She saw that a man was standing there, and assumed that he had one of the flits surrounding the queen. She gulped, and took a big breath. Then she said, "Golden beauty, may I, perhaps, be suitable for your golden egg?"
She bowed her head, and caressed the little brown that was perched on her shoulder. Until she Impressed Mati, she had been all alone. Abused in her first home, and an outcast in this one. She was terrified of males, but she knew that some day this must pass.
She fingered the conch shell hanging at her side, the whiteness of the shell contrasting drastically with the black sklacks, and green tunic she wore. The cord was thick, yet weightless. She reached into her belt pouch, and also fingered the strips of meat that she had cut for flits.
Oh, she hoped that the golden beauty in front of her, looking like a million marks, would even consider letting her even ,i>try to Impress the little queen! Oh, how marvelous that would be! To have a queen.....
