Ariella stealthily points out Liraz's position behind a rock, only a few windblown, salt-caked curls of still-unwashed black hair and the tip of a scabbard visible to the flits. My friend Liraz is over there. I'm going to give her another green if she comes out.
Hearing this in her mind, Liraz approaches the nest, and Ariella nudges out another small egg toward her friend. A delicate dark green snout pokes out of a crack in the shell almost immediately, followed by a surprisingly large body. Shard it! Wing cramps! thought the young flit as she creeled piteously for food and got a large mouthful of dried fish.
"Hello, Yafah," said Liraz, smiling down at the fire lizard after she was finished feeding. Hi, Lira... ZzzZzz.... The sleeping flit nearly fell out of Liraz's hand, but was then placed on her shoulder, where the pine green tail wrapped reflexively around her bonded's neck.
"Thank you, 'Ella."
How could I not give you one? I mean, really!
