With a gasp, Matt picked up the golden egg. He caressed the smooth, hard shell, and carefully opened his belt-pouch, to take it with him. But just as he was about to put the egg away, it began to rock! Tiny fragments fell away from the precious treasure inside, to reveal a tiny, pure-gold hatchling.
Her jewelled eyes met his, and he smiled as her mind entered his. He fumbled, grabbing as much meat as he could, and giving it all to her. "You are Mika." He told her. "Mika."
I am Mika. She agreed, and he held her in the crook of his arm, where she fell asleep instantly. Matt turned to the queen. "Thankyou, golden one! I will cherish her for the whole of my life, and you have given me my greatest joy!" He bowed, placed a scrap of meat in front of Heartr, before turning and going to dolphineer training.
