“Just great, Eques. Got yourself lost again, didn’t ya?”
Of course, the boy was talking to himself. Of course, the funnier thing was that, to anyone watching, it was no wonder he couln’t find out where he was going; he was wandering around in circles that were plain to just about everyone but him. Oblivios to this fact, he kept walking and walking until…
CRACK!
Looking around wildly, he looked downward. His eyes widened as he saw the shell of a firelizard egg.
“AW SHARDS! I STEPPED ON A—oh, whew. It’s only half a—EGG?”
He knelt down by the shell surprised. Apparently, an egg had already hatched… but there was no mother flit to be seen.
“Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooo?” He called, cupping his hands to his mouth. “Any mother flits around here?”
People passing probably stared, but no mother was to be found.
“I guess not…” he said, looking around. “Hm…” He looked around the egg, and found a few more—nonhatched this time. “Oooooo… lookit! Pretty eggs!” He thought. “Maybe I should take them home before someone eats them… or whatever it is that happens to eggs when they’re left out…”
Carefully, he picked up a small and a medium… but no sooner had he picked them up than they started rocking.
“AHH!” He cried, as a little green burst from the smaller of the two eggs. She cried to him hungrily, eyes swirling red. “Uhh… food, food, food… where do I keep food…” He stuffed his hand into his pocket—and dropped the rocking medium.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” He yelled again. Everyone around was probably staring. He didn’t really know, he wasn’t looking. However, just as the medium hit the ground—it burst open into a blue fire lizard. “Phew.” He said, and then got nipped on the hand by the green.
“Oops.” He said, placing the green on the ground next to the blue. THEN he dug his hands into his pockets. “Um… don’t ask why, but… want some meatballs? Last night’s dinner…”
He placed the meat next to the flits…who launched themselves at them hungrily. “Wow, wow! Stop it! You can eat them, but not each other!”
After a few moments, the flits were done. “That was fast…” The flits both wobbled over to him, and laid down, sleepy. The green yawned. However, both seemed to be waiting for him to say something. “Um.. goodnight… what’re your names?” They just blinked at him. “Oh! Right, yeah… babies…” He thought for a moment. “Hm…” As he watched, the green started to drift into sleep, while her brother looked as active as ever. “Hm. Opposites. Yin and Yang! Not that you’re evil,” he told the blue, “but… you came second, and not before Yin I guess… yeah…”
After the naming, Yin yawned, and fell asleep. Yang jumped around a bit, but soon followed suit.
Eques scooped them up, and walked away. Now… if only he could find his way back…
