Subject: The story of Sagmus and Kaiser.

Their mother and father were named Lesseilia and Godard. They were both drudges, but respected drudges by the others.Nabol Hold was their home. They decided to have a boy which they named Sagmus. None of the dragonriders or the lord of the hold knew of this birth. 3 years later they decided to have Kaiser. Since no one but the drudges knew of these two boys, they never worked and were free to play, as long as they stayed with the drudges. When Sagmus was 8 and Kaiser was 5, thread fell, but did not touch Nabol, which was in a cold season on those plateaus. But their parents were killed, because they tried to run away and become dragonriders at Igen instead of horrible drudges. As far as Sagmus and Kaiser knew, they were killed by thread.Nabol came out of it's cold season and they had to fight.All the dragonmen fought valiantly, destroying the mountain-like air with the firestone blasts. But one of these men was a coward. He stayed in the hold and no one found him.But the brothers. Kaiser had turned 6 on this battle of thread. The brothers asked the dragonman, which they found out went by Jade, was not fighting. Jade told his blue dragon to leave, and told Sagmus and Kaiser he didn't feel like fighting. Sagmus and Kaiser had read some of the prophets and knew all dragonmen must fight. They were going to the lord, not caring if they were discovered anymore, since they had nothing to live for when their parents died. Jade valued his life more than drudges soon-to-be, and decided he would kill them before they reached the lord.Sagmus and Kaiser panicked and grabbed for the nearest weapon on the walls. Sagmus had a spear and Kaiser a sword. Sagmus hadn't been taught anything but he knew he must try. Kaiser had an extroadinary mind and had learned from glimpses of visiting dragonmen. Jade took out a small blade, not quite a dagger, and headed for Kaiser stood in terror while he ran ever closer. Then the horror happened. Jade slashed off Kaiser's left hand, and the boy shrieked in pain and fell down to the ground.Jade turned for Sagmus but he had already lunged and with all his strentgh, knock the blad out of his hand. The dragonman snatched the spear away from the terror stricken Sagmus and shattered the spear into splinters. Kaiser came up and was in pure anger. How could he live without a hand? He grabbed the sword from the ground and stabbed the sword all the way through Jade's back as he was going for Sagmus. The battle was over, but not the horror. Kaiser was now covered in Jade's blood. Kaiser stared at his hands. One was drenched in blood while the other severed one was oozing it out. All he could do was that. He had killed a dragonrider with his hands. Sagmus came over to the dying Jade and shrieked "Are you alright"?! This were Jade's last words, as Sagmus remembers them vividly.

"For drudges, you fight well. I hope you become dragonriders some day. Never give up hope. Here is a song that may give you confidence.

Suddenly Jade's face turned into hate and used the last of his strentgh to look at Kaiser. "But you, I will haunt you as long as the blood on your hands stays"! With that, he died. Later in the battle of thread Kaiser lost sight in his right eye when a thread lashed it shut. The thread immediatly died from being singed, so no great harm happened to Kaiser. During the horrible battle Sagmus and Kaiser were split up. Sagmus became a wanderer while Kaiser went to Igen, for his parent had taught him and Sagmus of that Weyr and Kaiser knew most about it. Sagmus wandered for 6 years, meeting two great friends named Numar and Zell. When he became 15, he watched all the dragonmen and learned what to do as a dragonman. He also viewed many clutches and hatchings take place. When he turned 17 he decided it was time to become a dragonman, and thus his story began. Kaiser was put in an orphanage and no one ever knew that he was a drudge. When Kaiser turned 8, he was adopted by a wealthy woman whose husband was a dragonman. She was most impressed by Kaiser's growing mind, and felt sorry for his lost hand and scared eye. Her name was Rosaly and the man was Rogath. When Rosaly asked what happened to him, Kaiser hid his murder by saying thread had taken his hand and eye, which was half a lie. When Kaiser turned 11 Rogath died, but Rosaly stayed wealthy and was still respected. Kaiser spent his time inventing things. His first invention was what he called a pullshot. It was a hollow stick 1 foot long with a long wooden cork. Inside was a rock. The cork was placed on the top of it while you place a rock in the other side. A string that was stretchable, which he called rubber, was put over the cork and nailed to the sides and to the top of the cork. When it the cork was pulled the rubbber gave resistance, and the harder the resistance, the greater the rock would shoot. You pulled the cork back, but not too far to where the end came out or it would make the pullshot shatter, and let go. The rubber will push the cork back to it's place with extreme momentum, and the cork's end would ram the rock, blasting the rock out of the end and cause dents. When Kaiser showed this to the other boys, they used it for violence and bblamed Kaiser and told their mothers. Kaiser got in big trouble. After that, he decided that he would keep the inventions to himself, for Pern was better off without his contraptions. He spent the next three years inventing things and going throughout Igen looking for materials and watching the dragonmen. When he became 12, he made his claw to replace his hand. When he became 14, Rosaly wanted him to impress, and so he went off and left his foster mother, and thus his story began. A poor wanderer with dreams of being a dragonrider, and a wealthy inventor who had murdered, brought together as brothers and dragonriders.
