Subject: Loyalty and Imperfection

At last! More of her sons and daughters were Hatching! This was going very well. Surprisingly well, since nobody had known that there was even going to be a clutch. Grenith had feared for a moment that she was stealing candidates from the clutch of a queen, but then she relaxed. There would always be more. And many here would not get dragons. There were only three left, after all!

The next egg began to roll rather than rock, as if the dragon inside was trying to walk rather than hatch. But in a movement so quick nobody noticed it, a blue paw suddenly shot out of the egg casing. Another hatchling, and maybe the kind of blue that had been expected.

This one, as he crawled from his confinement, was normal. A little on the small side, to be sure, but a nice, handsome shade of blue, with a fine long tail and a neat pace. But one eye, his left, was closed. This was a defect of being hatched from a green egg – who would expect him to be perfect? The others had all been wonderful. Now the sceptics could smile and gloat.

But the little blue seemed unaware of this. He continued to walk just fine, head held high, his eye closed and healed over – it would never open. With a purr of satisfaction, he looked over to his chosen human with on adoring eye.

{J’ay! I am your Fabrizioth! I will stay with you always! But you might have to help me a little…my eye feels strange!}
