Author: Divar and Kuru
Subject: never said nothing with flowers

Divar ran, slid and stumbled quite ungracefully into the tiny room which had been his home for only a short while. He thought to stop to pull the curtain closed before he shucked off his sandy wet clothes from the beach, pulling on dry khaki colored shorts and a sleeveless white shirt; the shirt was actually not quite white, but slightly dirty and stained in some places, but it would do for something under the Candidate robe. He snatched the blindingly white thing off the hook on the wall and pull it over his regular clothes, sitting back on the bed as he laced his sandals around his feet and up over his ankles tightly. That done, he searched for the last two meatrolls that he and Alkyri had taken earlier, giving one to Kuru and shoving one into his mouth whole. Alkyri would not be pleased, but the two blues could always go pilfer more. Kuru hopped up onto Divar's pillow, kneading it slightly with his talons and settling down for a nap. Divar snorted slightly, but let the young blue stay put. He'd only hatched today, the flit could sleep off his efforts and join up with the young man later. Divar swallowed the meatroll, looked around to make sure everything was put back where it needed to be, either in his bag or hanging up and drying, and started off to the Hatching Sands at a dead sprint.

------------------------------------------

Divar's robe had come undone and open during his quick trek from his temporary abode to the scorching sands where Shrineth had recently clutched. The bright sun blinded him momentarily, and he blinked rapidly as his eyes adjusted from the dimness of the entryway to the blinding midday light he had just encountered. As his dark brown eyes focused, he caught the sight of the eggs warming on the sands, their surfaces still smooth and unblemished, sparkling in the sun just as Shrineth's hide sparkled, the immense Queen presiding over her unborn children. He took his time, stepping first away from the entance, and counted the eggs one by one, his lips mouthing silently as he tried not to point; however, Divar simply wanted to know. Twenty three in all, not counting the Queen egg. He wasn't going to count an egg that would surely not be one he would Impress. Now that would be a sight to see. Divar let a smile upturn his expression for a moment as he attempted to not squint. That attempt failed, but he turned his attention to the Candidates that had arrived.

They weren't at all hard to see in robes of sparkling white, crisp and starched like new against the rough, light brown sands. Four boys and one girl. The odds were already against him. Divar grinned. Good, he liked when the odds were against him. He always seemed to get lucky when everyone thought it would be impossible for him to do something. Even though this was not impossible, Divar knew he would prove himself. Though, he did miss the slight pressure on his shoulder that Alkyri supplied. He thought of the little blue flit. Where had that sharding lizard gotten off to? Surely it didn't take this long to fly a green and get back. Hopefully the petite blue would feel his companions anxiety brewing under his calm expression and return to him soon. So Divar hoped. The young, tanned male lifted his feet up one after the other as the sand burned even through the soles of his sandals. He had not even experienced this kind of heat at the Beach. The sun baked them all, working hard to incubate the eggs as Divar felt the first trails of sweat roll down the back of his neck. He shuddered visibly as rubbed it away, dislike the feeling; he pulled his sleeve over his hand and used it to wipe the sweat off his forehead from underneath his spiky dark hair, hair that looked near to black but was really brown. Everyone thought it was black, and his naturally tanned skin made it look even more so.

Divar secured his robe once more and stepped into the ring all the Candidates were inevitably forming, consciously or not. He rocked back and forth from the heels to the balls of his feet, looking around at who would be his comrades for most likely the rest of his life. If he so happened to catch their eye, he would give a friendly wave and a smile, but hesitated to apprach anyone quite yet. People were milling about in the stands and shouting, and the overall atmosphere was still quite chaotic. Better to wait until everyone could get their bearings straight before drumming up idle conversation, though he itched to know their names. Divar rubbed at the scars on his knuckles absently, busying himself with attempting to guess the colors that the shells conatined. This was mostly useless, he had never been to any hatching, and had no idea of what the proceedings would be except those bits and pieces that had been explained to him. He knew not to go touching them all though. With that thought he remembered Shrineth again, and looked up to her to give a cordial, formal bow before preparing to wait. He just had to remember not to lock his knees, lest he pass out before the eggs even hatch. that wouldn't do so well...
