Subject: Something has been taken…

From deep inside of me…

The 24-turn-old girl walked reluctantly onto the sands. She really didn’t know if this was what she wanted. Sure, it was some girls’ dream to have the chance to walk out onto the blistering sands of the hatching ground, burn their feet off, and merely get a glimpse of the golden hide before it chose “a more suitable partner” than herself, but this was NOT something True would’ve dreamed of. The biggest thing True could ever see happening in her life was her headaches letting up a little.

She seriously regretted thinking that, because a wave of pain shot through her head. Strange thing, it happened to do that a lot lately. Determined not to shed a single tear for these hopeless children gathered around the spinning orbs to see, she walked on.

Shards, she thought. Why did they have to make this place so hot? My feet are killing me. Combined with her headache, the pain the sand caused seemed to make her slightly faint.

And why must we wear white? She thought bitterly. I HATE white! And it’s so thin; it would rip easily. What would they do if someone got into a fight? This new thought raised a new furry. And, they just HAD to take my dagger away! I should’ve just hid it in my boots. They couldn’t have taken it then. Oh well. Nothing much to do now.

True honestly didn’t know what to do as she walked closer to the guarding mother. She saw other candidates give little introductions to the Queen, and thought grimly to herself, Great. I need to bow, and that will make my headache worse. Well, she had to. She may be in a bad mood at the moment because of her torturing headaches, but she still would show the proper respect for the golden sovereign.

She walked slowly up to the golden beauty, and bowed. Pain strangled its way into her head, and she coughed semi-consciously.

A secret I’ve kept locked away…

Slowly, as if entering this place could be suicidal, she got up and walked up closer to the dappled eggs. Even True had to admit it while lost in her thoughts; they were beautiful. The smaller ones rocked with humility and excitement as they prepared to greet the new world around them. The bigger, middle sized ones shook with glee and zest, forgetting their unhatched superiors about them. The largest of the clutch swung about in their desperate and beauteous show of excellence and power…

As the beautiful, reverberating humming increased in volume a little, True tore her eyes away from the others and looked to the mother’s magnum opus; the golden shell of the Queen egg. The sway of the golden shell, sending little bits of sand away, was astounding, alarming, terrifying, beautiful, and rapturous… all at once. It was wonderful. It was all True could ever wish for…

True snapped back to her reality immediately. She had no chance of impressing the smallest green, let alone the great golden sovereign.

The girl sighed, and walked a bit closer. However, she’d never admit to be one of them. She stood away from the other candidates, leaning against a rock. She sighed, and put a hand to her head. Her headache was getting worse. And the humming of excited dragons wasn’t exactly helping, either.

Her head was pounding, and it made her dizzy. However, she stayed looking forward, looking distantly and wondering why she was here, and what would go on for the jaded 24-turn-old…

No one can ever see…

((Hey... she'll accept any color... I'd love to see her ride the gold, but she won't die or anything if she doesn't. After all, blues and greens are just as wonderful, just as agood of friends, right?))
