A nappy and snug fitting plastic pants ( rubbers ) in those days were essential . Some nights because I had been naughty earlier I was put over mum's lap and had a smacked bottom before being nappied and put to bed . Once in the early days I took my nappy and plastic pants off and threw them under the bed when mum came to bed herself she checked on me and found what I had done . I was woken up and received a severe bare bottom spanking and made to stand in the corner with my hands on my head like a naughty boy for half an hour before my nappy and rubbers were put back on with a warning never to take them off again ( I never dared to do so again ) . In the morning mum would wake me around 7-30 in the morning and check by putting a couple of fingers inside my rubbers to see if I was wet or dry if wet a red circle would be marked on the calendar and 2 red circles in a week meant the whole of the weekend from Friday bedtime until Monday morning wearing a nappy and plastic pants and being treated like a 3 yer old .
