In times passed she would have been described as a governess. Though not at school I was required to wear a smart school uniform. Navy Mary Jane sandals , white pelerine socks, nave school knickers, white blouse and tie and a neat navy gym-slip. My tutor specified that the gym slip should be brief, just covering my bottom. I also wore a neat yellow or green sash around my waist. It was very neat and indeed I had many compliments on how smart I looked. I wore this outfit not just in her study but for outings to the library, museums, etc. If I had clearly not tried hard enough at my work, either with her or at my school, she used to strap or rarely cane my bottom either bare or over my knickers. At the time this was painful and humiliating, however she was fair about it and looking back quite justified. I went on with her help to pass all my exams.
