Yes, it's always struck me as somewhat odd that girls can choose to wear shorts or trousers, and yet a boy in a skirt or dress suffers ridicule and humiliation.

It's the same in panto (as this is panto season!) - the 'leading boy' is usually a female playing a boy, and is seen as the sexy hero, but the 'dame' is a figure of fun.

But it's still a fact that I found it more humiliating to be dressed as a girl, whether a baby girl or older, than being dressed in similarly age-inappropriate boys's clothes.
