Hi Tim,

I'm not saying my dad was in any way unfair or abusive, but when I went too far out of line, he'd tan my butt & that was bare butt with the belt as a teenager.

I was 14 or 15 the time he took me to the basement. There was an argument with mom & she grounded me to my room to await dad getting home. She told him I showed a fist gesture during the argument & that it was a threat beyond words. He gave me 'the talk' & then said we were going to the basement. He had a tool/work bench there & had me drop down my jeans & shorts & bend over the bench bare butt. He took off his belt & rather than double-over, he wrapped all but about 15-18" around his hand making a leather strap to whip me. Believe me, it got my attention.

The garage was at 17 & I drove home after a few beers with friends. Dad & I had a previous agreement that I would call for a ride rather than drive or ride with a friend who had been drinking. I violated that agreement. It was late & mom in bed already so dad said we would go to the garage. When there I saw him removing his belt. I knew then I was in for an ass whipping & the belt was always bare. He pointed to the hood of the car & said 'get'em down', so my Levis & boxers went to my knees & across the still warm hood that warmed my front side as dad more than warmed my backside.

Did you get belt whippings growing up? Your dad advocate a paddling/whipping be bare butt?
