At our home spankings are always bare bottom. We use a number of different positions, over the knee, bend over a piece of furniture or a conveniently placed horizontal support beam in the upstairs hall of our house. We also use different implements. Hand spankings are most common, especially with the younger children, but when necessary we also use a carpet beater, a belt or a cane. After a spanking there always is at least 30 minutes of corner time. We also make our kids keep a punishment diary, where they have to write down why and how they were spanking. Having them copy pages from it or aggregate statistics like: How many times have you or your brothers and sisters been spanked for backtalk in the last 6 month is a very effective last warning.
