Without the directing nudge of mother or father, our speckled minion was travelling a very unorthodox path. Still well beneath the defining age mark of one year, Naicus was driven to chewing leaves and brush in the absence of milk, and to entertain himself with an invisable friend in the absence of notice. Worse, the colt did not expect anything more than his pitiful existance. Since the storm, that horrible flurry of swirling madness, Naicus had led a life of comparative comfort. He slumbered now, curled around a tree, where he should have known the warmth of mother and home.
