Sheer desperation gave Morrow the needed strength for one final surge to his son's side. Eyes wild and lacking their usual lazy happiness, the stallion pushed roughly on his son's side, righting the colt and placing him within a few steps of the forest sanctuary. His child safe, Morrow allowed himself a hurried thought of Shine and turned back into the blizzard, disapearing from view entirely.

Cold, and now relatively alone, the paint huddled against a tree. Where had father gone? Or that other colt and mare for that matter? He would have welcomed any companionship at this point, loner though he usually was. Naicus shivered, a reflex produced not solely by the cold.
