Good point. Amy feels euphoric when she smokes, relaxed but it is probably all in her imagination. Her heart beats crazily fast so, like exercise, is her body really relaxed??

Saturday was... interesting. Picked her mom up, Amy gave her mom a hug and her mom said, "Are you still smoking? I can smell smoke on you!"

"Don't start, mom."

We all got in the car, I was driving.

"It's just that I read that smoking elevates your heart rate. You are so beautiful, Amy! Why ruin your looks and health. I don't want you to have a heart attack!"

Amy looked at me, rolled her eyes, then reached for a cigarette, lit it, closed her eyes briefly as she let the smoke seep down her throat, past her chest and into her welcoming lungs. She opened the window a bit before exhaling, a look of satisfaction on her face.

"Oh Amy, please put that out!"

I put the car in drive and we were off, Amy chain smoking one cigarette after another to and from, her mother complaining the whole way.

Very interesting...
