Subject: Updates, smaller downloads, and a removal
Folks,
Spent the evening going over the Library.
I pulled an older laptop with a newer version of macOS, downloaded the optimization app, and started dragging and dropping files.
Saved us about 23MB of space.
The app I've been using must have had an expiry date or something baked into it, because almost all of the affected files were created after December 2024. So sort of a forced upgrade. I'll have to set up my new machine.
I've also removed a file, Some Early Smoking Experiences by Ella B. I thought it was an essay, turns out it was fiction. Ella appears to be an incredibly prolific writer on Reddit, and posts far too frequently for me to be able to keep up with, also, a lot of her work is pretty spicy, and some of it isn't all that suitable for the library. I'm still deciding on what to do. If I save her work, there will be dozens of stories, across several volumes, and I know the cloud services I'm using won't be able to cope.
Anyway now to the good bit.
I'm optimized some files.
I'll list them in the categories in which they appear.

(It's an older file, most of you already know it, I slimmed it down by a few kilobytes, not enough to make a difference, but I thought what the hell)

And of course I did remove that one file so call it about 26MB of space reclaimed.
The file names are unchanged, so the links to them should still work, if not, let me know.
The space I've managed to reclaim isn't much, but it's not nothing. It's the equivalent of two or three larger files, so that small gain will disappear in a couple of months. Honestly I wasn't expecting much, but I am glad for the little I got.
I could have gotten more, but it would have meant reducing the quality of the output files, and I didn't want to do that. I didn't want stuff to look and print like hot garbage, especially where there are images involved.
That's it, I guess.
And folks, next time Dropbox is offering more free space, please please please consider using the link I post, it would really help me out, the basic accounts are free, and we each get an extra 500MB out of it.
