Used laptops are $100, all set up with lots of RAM and a power supply. That's what I use, that's what I paid. Got a Dell Latitude E6430 with 8 gig RAM. Probably thousands of good laptops out there, check out craigslist or offerup. I got mine from a hobbyist who buys them by the dozens, checks them out and sells them. Plenty of guys do that.

Don't have to be an expert, just get what you want. People are happy to help out.
