A Lesser Evil (Sm0king L0ver) - A Review

Part One - The Author

The author is apparently active on Reddit.

Part Two - A Lesser Evil

The story was first published on Reddit and subsequently republished in Vol. 120 of the Noble Leaf Library. For Jane, struggling with the aftermath of opioid addiction, any lifeline would be worth grabbing. But could she take the risk of grabbing this one.

Part Three - Comments

The story is short, powerful and effective. The opening paragraph spells out the protagonists appalling situation, free of the drugs she's been taking, but wrestling with both the effects of her past actions on her relationships and a powerful need that will not quit.

This makes it very different from any smoking fetish story I've ever read. The protagonist is not starting for fun, peer pressure or any of the standard reasons. They are starting because they are fighting with cravings beyond anything imaginable and need something to take the edge off so that they can move forward.

The author correctly makes it clear not only that the protagonist understands what embracing the habit potentially means but also that they understand what it can give them and the willingness to take that chance.

The final paragraph brings the story to a hopeful, but not fully happy conclusion.

I have no hesitations in recommending this, the author hints in their introduction that it was the longest piece they had written, if it is indeed their first story then they have done a magnificent job.
