Subject: A potential, tedious project?

So every now and then, someone somewhere pops up with a question about a story or stories they vaguely remember, and are trying to find. Those who help typically point to stories at SSN. Good. Great.

(sigh)

I sometimes get asked to help, and while I don't mind, my memory of early content is a little hazy in many cases. Back in the day, I could remember the basic plots of a couple of hundred stories, but getting close to two decades on, not even I can recall the basic plot points on 1800+ stories.

So…I may as well start to put together another database, thing is, there is no way in hell I am going to do it alone, I'd rather rip out my eyeballs, I've got a prototype going, and I've done the first three stories of Volume 001, and I already don't want to continue, not on my own.

Why do I do things?

But I do think the payoff will come in the longer term. If the database grows, people can search it for stories they're looking for, saving everyone time going forward.

I can do all the pre-build stuff, but I will need help filling in the gaps, and right now there are a lot of those.

What I intend is, Title, Author, location in NSC, a basic synopsis of the story, the names and duties of the main characters, and the topics of the story, and if possible brands smoked. I've tried to make it as simple as possible, so anyone using the database need only do searches to find the type of story they're looking for, and then if the synopsis matches their memory, they know it's name, author and location in the library.

Is anyone wanting to help out with that? If not I'll kill the project now. If anyone has a better idea, please tell me before I go deep on this one. If anyone feels motivated to help out, I won't care if you pick a story at random, as I can add an entry to the database, I have it set up for 2000 records, so I can fill in entries no problem. If anyone wants to see what little work I've done so far, I'll put a link up. I have no idea what to call it.

So, Yes, No? Imma give it a week.

Nick
