I will start to read almost anything - whether or not I continue reading depends upon the quality of writing; I am unable to get engaged in a story (fiction or factual) if reading it is drudgery.
As editor you have a great grasp on whether any author's work is worthy of publication and present great commentary if a piece would have benefited from added polishing. I vote for broadened horizons.
