Subject: Mark's Smoke Blog Spring Cleaning

In the not so distant past, I'd get enough new sightings every year to justify an annual reconfiguration of my blog, adding in new sightings from the past year to my various all-time favorite lists at each venue. It was an arduous process to adjust the time stamps on most of the posts to accommodate the new configuration, but it was worth it to add the exciting new material and see how it stacked up against old favorites. Unfortunately, in the era of sightings scarcity we're now slogging through, I'm no longer reconfiguring my lists annually and there's far fewer new entries to add when I do. It was two years ago that I last added to my greatest hits list, and the one upside I've found is that Word Press made the timestamp adjustment much easier than it was in the past.

Anyway, I've had the most luck (comparatively speaking) at the Iowa State Fair in the last two years, adding four new sightings from 2022 and 2023.

A stunner at a small fair in South Dakota this year was added to my All Other Fairgrounds favorites list.

The Minnesota State Fair was my best sightings venue of all for more than a generation but I only added two new sightings from there in 2022 and 2023.

A 2022 sighting at a mall made for the first new entry on my mall sightings list in about six years.

And a 2022 follow-up sighting to an existing favorite from a central Iowa casino also warranted an update to my casino sightings list.

Unfortunately, nothing new from my local county fair that warranted addition in the last two years. None of my random sightings were strong enough to change the Random Sightings list. And I haven't added to my Summerfest sightings list since 2016. Hope springs eternal that I'll do better in 2024, but I think it's a long shot that I'll get enough this year to justify another "spring cleaning" at this time in 2025.
