Part One - The Author

The identity of the author(s) of this series of stories, published via Amazon.com is unknown. The two names given as 'Co-Authors' on the cover are those of the stories principle characters, it's not clear if there is a single author hiding behind them or two authors.(1)

Part Two - Deana Smokes

The story was published on Amazon.com in four parts during 2019 between the 4th and 24th of March. These parts make up a, probably incomplete, 'smokers life' tale set during the 1980s(2), starting from first cigarette to the birth of their first child.

Part Three - Comments

The writing is competent, although there is plenty of evidence the kind of word substitution errors that result from the author using a spell-checker as a substitute for proof-reader. The author did understand foreshadowing, Lucy, the mothers unease at Deana's entheusiasm to taking up the habit, is the first sign of the breakdown in the relationship between the pair.

It's this breakdown, which is probably the most interesting part of a storyline to this reviewer since it features a plot element that only appeared once before to my knowledge in smoking fetish fiction(3), namely someone restarting smoking only to quit again. In this case it's the mother, Lucy, who having restarted smoking shortly before her daughter first experiments with the habit, develops doubts about it once her daughter becomes pregnant and refuses to quit smoking.

Her ultimate reason to make a second attempt at quitting as described in the third story in the series, is the feeling that she "...had resumed smoking for all the wrong reasons..." which while the author effectively dismisses it in the next line nethertheless opens up the possibility that Lucy may have been intended to return to the habit again at a future point in the story.

Curiously for a story which effectively ends with a mother-daughter rift and seems to be setting up a major conflict between them over whether or not Virginia(4), Deana's daughter becomes a smoker, the one review of the series on Amazon which goes into any detail, written by a purchaser using the nym 'Sharon Parsons' states that the story has no "dramas or crisis's to deal with."

Overall this is a classic smoking fetish story of the kind that evolved during the 'Loring Era' being sold on Amazon, had the author continued the story and covered the mother/daughter clash that's clearly in the offing by the end of the published segments I'd feel more confident in giving it a firm recommendation, as it stands, it only deserves a soft recommendation.

Notes:

1. The odd spelling of the heroines first name, the release of what's clearly a single story as multiple parts and the way the story ends with plot threads dangling, leads this reviewer to speculate that there is the unlikely possibility that the author behind this is whoever was behind the pseudonym An4. There is however no hard evidence to prove this only gut instinct. Certainly none of that authors other 'signatures' (References to Apple Computer products, the band Nine-Inch Nails, the X-Files TV series or spelling the word 'amazing' as 'amasing'.) appear in the published work.
2. The first story, 'Deana Starts Smoking' is set in 1977, the rest of the stories are set in 1980-1981.
3. This is the plot arc for the character Valerie in SStoryman's 'Worth Sacrificing For' which can be read in the third volume of the SStoryman Anthology. A review can be found in the twenty-fifth volume of the Consolidated Smoking Fetish Fiction Reviews.
4. This is the third time I've encountered in smoking fetish fiction a character specifically named after Virginia Slims cigarettes, the other stories are An4's 'The Red Right Hand' and the two stories which make up the 'Starting' series.
