Author: Embrace the variety
Subject: When Olive Hurley released her videos, those became the ones that most people think are the "traditional" versions. But recently the Kerry and Cork versions of the sets are being revived. JO'R was doing the Molyneaux (Kerry) versions of BB and SPD. I'm delighted that we are preserving more of the traditions from more of the country. My son has won trad set competitions and passed grade exams doing the Hurley Blackbird, the Cork Garden, and the Molyneaux Jockey. All were readily accepted by adjudicators and examiners.

  • There are also multiple steps. Think like ceili dances were there is a body and a figure and then you go back to the body. There's an idea that trad sets used to be set up that way. So dancers when they compete are really only doing the first part of the dance, and there's more to it. (NT) -- ..., 09:40:57 09/27/17 Wed
  • yes. the longer versions are on the Olive Hurley video. Cool to learn the whole thing, and actually a pretty good workout to dance the WHOLE dance. they are pretty long! (NT) -- x, 12:25:20 10/07/17 Sat
