Subject: Survey one says.....
In reply to: John F. 's message, "Anyone get the investment survey fron NG?" on 22:51:33 03/22/02 Fri

John F: As a business consultant and corporate trader, I find this an interesting questionnaire.

First, more and more you will see corporations trying to self-fund, and NG would certainly be the right sized company to make this effort. So I certainly can't blame them for attempting a private offering, as opposed to working through a Wall Street firm. However, in golf, I am not so sure I would want to deny myself that legitimacy...Wall St.

Secondly, I could see extra capital required to move themselves out of the 1970's kind of marketing they currently use. The marketing people at NG are just sooo dated, it is kind of sad. I doubt that there is anybody at NG to see past current marketing techniques, which become woefully inadequate as soon as the company is forced to deal with popularity and lowerd margins. However, on the positive side, it is the perfect kind of company to benefit from the new marketing opportunities which are very well suited to small companies like NG.

Thirdly, they have this whole truth issue, and the company lacks spirit (soul). I think a lot of the NGCIs have great spirit (soul), but spirit definitely does not permeate the company. The spirit of the company is definitely about hustling a buck, as evinced by the sale of LOBG tapes on e-bay.

You are right about one thing. A well run instructional company can finance itself quite easily, as it is a cash business. I think NG could take a lesson from a famous restaurant company, of which I am aware.

The restaurant chain to which I refer started with 3 restaurants, and now has thousands. When they first started they promoted the use of the suggestion box to obtain criticism. They did not defend themselves against any criticism. Instead, they fixed it. For example, if they got complaints that the toilets were not clean, they cleaned the toilets every hour, and every half-hour during rush times. They would clean the toilets every five minutes, if that's what it took to stop that complaint. In short, the restaurant did not get defensive. They fixed it. The complaint list went on and on and on, and the restaurant was literally managed to ensure that none of these complaints occurred.

It's not that NG should run their business like a restaurant, but, at some time, somebody should open the suggestion box and read what is in there, and if the shoe fits, they should put it on.
