I put an Equalizer on my 6 iron and found it hard and heavy and I did not like the feel of the surface, especially after half a bucket of balls at the driving range. I subsequently installed Big-Grips on the rest of my irons, driver and three wood after lengthening the clubs by 1.5". I really like the feel of the BGs and increased my distance per club 10-15 yards. The extra length kept the swingweight about the same plus effectively made the clubs three degrees upright (according to everything I have read). The advantage of the BGs is that they are quite long, so I could choke up on them until I got used to the extra club length. As I got comfortable with the extra length my distance increased.
