Subject: Kirk Junge's "Grass cutting drill"

The Grass Cutting Drill"

"To begin this drill, cut the grass without striking golf balls. Use a short arm swing and focus on a rhythmic tempo. Keep your feet flat on the ground and simply cut the grass in both directions. This is as natural as a swinging motion gets. Let your arms work freely past your body in both directions. Your lead arm should extend in the backswing while the trail arm folds. Then, during the forward swing, your trail arm extends while your lead arm folds. This arm independence allows your body to "face the ball at impact", Natural Golf’s fourth fundamental.
Body motion is a direct result of the arm swing. This is ‘arm generated body motion’ at its best. The phrase “arm generated body motion” means that the body moves only in anticipation of and in response to the swinging arms.

In the Natural Golf swing, trying to generate arm speed by turning or twisting the body only throws the clubhead off line, producing inconsistency. Simply swing the club with your arms and let your body respond to the motion naturally.

Your wrists will also respond to the swinging motion. They work together as a ‘free hinge’, creating a Leverage Angle between the arms and the clubshaft during the backswing, and releasing it through impact. It is this responsive wrist action that allows the clubface to square through the impact zone, eliminating the slice.

Once you are comfortable with the rhythm of swinging back and forth, focus on the path of the clubhead during the forward swing. Allow the clubhead to swing from inside the target line, to square in the impact zone, and then back to the inside of the target line.

When the arms are free to swing, controlling the path of the clubhead is a simple matter. Don’t worry too much about how long the clubface remains square through the impact zone. Trust that your Natural Palm grip will take care of that. Just keep swinging!"

There is only one thing I can say, if this what they are now teaching at NG as the "New and Improved" swing, then they have a lot more in common with Ernest Jones then they do Moe Norman.

Moe on the "Golf Journeyman" tape, "The golf swing is a body swing, not a hand and arm one"!
