I just looked at the men's prospectus for Binghamton, and I noticed a new name on the new comers list (Kevin Kloostra). I did some research on him and every website I came across stated that he was signed by Lamar. Does anyone know the deal with this kid? What's the skinny on him?

This guy looks like a great catch!! He's one of the top couple players in Canada. He got a release from Lamar after the previous coach was fired, didn't think he would click with new coach Billy Tubbs. From the Chatham (Ont.) newspaper:

Kloostra Binghamton-bound

Local Sports - Kevin Kloostra didn’t need long to turn Binghamton University basketball coach Al Walker into a fan.

The McGregor shooting guard, originally bound for Lamar University, has secured a scholarship to Binghamton following a visit there less than two weeks ago.

“We’re excited,” Walker said. “I didn’t get a chance to see Kevin before he got hurt but all the people I count on tell me he’s a heck of a player...

“We’re really looking for a guy to step in and help us score.”

The six-foot-four Kloostra, 18, sat out this past season after undergoing sur-gery on his left knee. He said the knee now feels “amazing.”

“It’s just a matter of getting back in shape,” he said.

He practised with some of the Bearcats during his visit to the school.

“It’s a state university, so it’s big,” Kloostra said, “and they’re building a brand-new $33-million stadium and that’ll be ready for next year, so that’ll be fun to play in...

“I felt good playing with them. I just felt comfortable there.”

He had been looking for a new school since getting a release from Lamar, which fired head coach Mike Deane in March.

After speaking with new head coach Billy Tubbs on the phone, Kloostra could tell Lamar was no longer the right place for him.

He follows Brian Bidlingmyer, an ex-Lamar assistant, to Binghamton, N.Y.

The Bearcats are entering their third season at the Division I level.

“It’s a good time for a player like Kevin to step right in because we’re ready to blow this thing open,” Walker said.

Binghamton is seeking its first appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament.

“That’s my job: bring ’em to the tournament,” said Kloostra, who isn’t concerned about the program’s low profile.

“It doesn’t matter where I play,” he said. “If I play good, people are going to notice, just as long as it’s Division I.”

He added: “If I really work hard this summer, I could probably start.”

Binghamton’s schedule for the coming season includes games against Syracuse and Kansas, the finalists from this year’s NCAA championship.

Kloostra will be the second McGregor graduate playing basketball next season in the America East conference.

Kelly Watson has a scholarship to Stony Brook University.
