Subject: Azumah gift to UNH

UNH has taken a little crap over the years about facilities etc., so it's nice to report on some good news. According to a release from UNH today, former Walter Payton Award winner, Jerry Azumah has made a gift of over $100,000 to his alma mater. Azumah was a great running back in the late 90s, who is now a starting cornerback for the Chicago Bears.

His donation is for the complete overhaul, including state of the art equipment at the University's strength and conditioning facility at the Field House. He becomes the youngest alum to give a gift of more than $100,000 to his alma mater. He's 25 or 26 I think.

They are having an open house at the new Jerry Azumah Athletic Performance Center on July 8th. I understand that several UNH athletes in many sports have stayed around campus this summer so they can be working out on the new equipment. That includes eight of the basketball players.

So, maybe this is the first in some good financial news for the UNH athletic department.

Great guy....I wish the Bears would at least let him return kickoffs. I always wondered what he could do if given a chance on offense.

Great use of the money. New equipment is much needed, the weightroom at the field house was a dump the year I ran track at UNH. I hope the UNH guys work out hard and play a lot of pickup ball this summer, I am cautiously omptimistic about next season. Are any of the new guys (Walls, Liddell, Taylor) among the 8 staying and working out at UNH this summer?

$100,000 is a lot of money! Especially for an NFL player, where the contracts aren't guaranteed. I don't think Azumah makes more than $1 million a year. Very very generous gift from Azumah, it shows how much UNH has been a factor in his success.
