Interesting to see that one of the CAA 4 is getting "fiscally responsible" (in their mind at least) and reallocating funds to other sports.

And for those who care, a Virginia paper indicated this week that this fall the CAA voted 7-3 in its expansion vote to let C of C and Northeastern in. Since an 8-2 vote is needed, C of C and NU weren't offered.

The 3 schools voting against NU were ODU, Towson and Delaware who were the other schools. There's speculation on the CAA board who the other two schools were since ODU's president said he voted against NU, and I know for a fact it was Towson and Delaware based on what folks at NU have told me.

Delaware would rather associate itself with the Al Qaeda All-Stars (exaggeration) than Northeastern. The A-10 association for football is a necessary evil for them. The Delaware AD can't stand Northeastern, and it's no real secret.

Thankfully, we got rid of Drexel and their lousy sports program. While it hurt to lose Delaware and Hofstra, I don't think anyone was sad to see Drexel and Towson leave AE. We definitely traded up in the longrun by adding the New York schools.

I thought one of the reasons that the CAA-4 was leaving the AE was to upgrade their commitment to athletics. It is increasingly ironic that they are dropping baseball which was one of the very superior sports for the CAA vs AE in the past.I wonder if this conference shakeout does occur if Drexel is effected eventually.

Interesting that Delaware would vote against NU when the Huskies would give the CAA the 6th football school they supposedly seek. They must really dislike you guys or they have something else in mind for plan B.

Delaware is a bunch of self serving SOB's who don't think NU should play in their sandbox because they don't have the same pedigree as UD and the Virginia state schools.

Yes, they need NU for football, but Delware is so "holier than thou" that they will gladly accept the benefit of NU without voting for it.

The AD there has a hair across his butt against NU. Goes back to UD's early days in the NAC, I'm told.

Are you just realizing this about Delaware? They are probably the most pompous/arrogant non-Ivy school that I have ever seen. Don't ever believe that they are doing NU or any other school any favors.....they are ALWAYS in it for themselves. Personally, I think that they are holding out for UMass (and their siamese twin, URI).

Story today how Delaware 'just can't find the time' to play football against Delaware State (has never happened yet) but they'll be playing a non-conference game against New Hampshire in 2004 after the A-10 splits into divisions (they 'just like playing NH')
