Subject: Air Force's loss is UVM's gain in frontcourt recruit

According to today's Burlington Free Press, UVM will add 6-7 205 forward Matt Hanson, from Brooklyn Park MN to next year's team. I'll post a link to the entire story, but the jist of it is: Hanson was set to go to the Air Force Academy and play ball for them. However, he has an asthma problem of some sort, which DQ's him from military service. So UVM gets wind of it, brings him into Burlington, he loves it, and now he's a Catamount.

He averaged 23.4 ppg and 8 rpg last season. I talked to someone who also knew a little about this situation, and they said that Hanson could have potential to make an impact right away next season (their words, not mine). Hell...if he's that good, UVM may be able to replace one Minnesotan (G. Anderson) in the starting line-up with another (Hanson). But, as always, we'll wait and see.

Had request for info posted on a Minnesota board. This is what turned up:

A friend of mine has kids that go there and he has watched all of their games. He says that the kid is 6'8" has very good strength and leaping ability and was double teamed all year. Apparently he was one of the better players in the two night all star series of Minn high school players.

Sounds like a great recruit for UVM, especially since the article says he's No. 1 in his graduating class.

UVM is looking very solid at all 5 positions for next year! Will be tough to beat.

He went to a tiny private school, Marantha Christian. Just guessing, but graduating class probably consisted of 90 kids.

But hey, No. 1 is No. 1.

If he did well in Minnesota all-star series, he must be pretty decent. Minnesota, over the past 10-15 years, has begun producing a bunch of D1 recruits each year.
