Subject: Info from BU breakup dinner
In reply to: Matt-11 's message, "BU breakup dinner" on 21:53:19 04/25/03 Fri

Some notes/thoughts on BU's break up dinner, which was held last night:
--Nice turnout--about 100 people by my estimate: alumni, players/coaches, administration, parents, friends.
--Atmosphere seemed a bit subdued compared to last season's banquet but, still a very nice dinner.
--The highlight film was well done and semed to give everyone some good show.
--Bell was MVP.
--It was announced that, although not all OOC games were set, away games next season will be at Michigan, Ohio, and Fordham; home games will be with St. Joe's, Harvard, Cleveland State and Youngstown State.
--AD Strickland's speech focused on "getting to the next level." He seemed to be saying (unless I was reading too much into it) that there will be a significant upgrade to the program in the next few years--he wants to see the program "nationally recognized." He also said he wants BU to consistently be the best team in the conference "as long as BU is in the AE" -- whatever that means (a change in conference affiliation?).
--Nice send off for Coach Greer.
--No captians or new assistant announced.
--The golf tournament is June 16, so more info will probably be available then, if not sooner.

>>>>>Rashad Bell not only received the MVP award at BU's inner, but also the Best Defensive Player award and some good-natured ribbing from Coach Wolff. Other awards:Billy Collins, the Steve Wright Academic; Paul Seymour,Most Improved; Ryan Butt, Friends of Basketball; and Jacob Kudlacz, Friends of Basketball. Among those attending: parents of frosh F/C Kevin Gardner, all the way from Calif. (they also attended the AE tournament); Brett Gladstone of CT.,transfer from UNa.,and Dredrick Irving, BU hoops Hall of Fame member. The Michigan game is part of a heal which will bring Michigan for the opeing bkb game in the new Harry Agganis Arena in fall of 2004. BTW, many people do not know that Agganis,Red Sox 1b, and NFL first round pick of the great(then) Cleveland Browns(he chose the Sox) ws a great bkb player at Lynn Classical High. Retired AD John Simpson said last night that Agganis could easily have started for BU hoops. However,I remember the fb coach insisted Agganis take some time off between fb and baseball. Yes,AD Gary Strickler said BU's next goal was to "not just win the AE tourney every few years but to dominate the AE." And in the future to get past the first and even the second NCAA rounds so that BU basketball will be nationally recognized. He said BU administration has assured him it has faith in Wolff and the bkb program and will budget accordingly.
