Providence is giving UA significantly more then the 25K by Syracuse. UA was tied into the ridiculous 5 year 1 Home -4 away deal(which stinks) with Syracuse thanks to Scott Hicks, who got the UA job partially through Jim Boeheim.

Re: Danes switch Big East opponents -- NU Hoop Fan, 20:44:33 04/27/03 Sun
Providence pays VERY well for guarantee games. I know NU got in excess of $35K for its game last year (the timing of the Albany game is the same timing of the NU-PC game last year). BC is notoriously cheap, I think NU got about $25K last year.
NU tried to get another game with PC this year and was politely told no. UMass, UConn, Providence, St. John's, etc. all told NU to look elsewhere. NU can't find a local guarantee game this year and is looking in the midwest.

All year long I said how strong NU was now even the Eastern Majors know it and they can't take the chance playing you guys. With the addition of Barnes you guys have as much talent as any team in the AE - and I truly mean that, Vermont and BU always get recognized but I think NU will be as good as anyone.
Providence will pay substantially more then what UA was getting from Syracuse!!!!

Re: Danes switch Big East opponents-NU Hoop Fan -- NU Hoop Fan, 10:13:50 04/28/03 Mon
I'm still not thrilled about the inside depth, but we'll see how Davis comes along. Stefanik is a 6'11 jump shooter as well, so the height is there, but there's not a lot of bulk underneath to give Robinson a break.
We've debated this before, but Javorie Wilson can't post up consistently, and I think the inside depth could kill this team this year.
There's one iron in the fire that would make me real happy about this season's prospects, but it's a longshot, and there's nothing to report now.
Funny story... I heard from people at UConn that Calhoun agreed in principle to play NU this year in Storrs until he was "reminded" by another head coach that Marcus Barnes was playing at NU next year. He promptly called Everhart and told him he wasn't going to play since Barnes always torched UConn when he was at Miami.
Such is life at a low major.

Such is life at a Low Major which will start 2 with High Major talent and rating - Barnes & Robinson.
