Subject: Signings?

Any signings in the near future? When is the spring signing period over? Anybody have the scoop on any prospects, especially BU?

Also, is the transfer from UVa getting a scholly? How many do you expect Wolff to sign for next season?

Thanks in advance.

There is way to much sarcasm on this board in general. It takes a way from the credibility of the board and really makes the posters sound like idiots. Let's try to be adults here... otherwise they have kiddy forums for the all of the wise guys to goof around in.

[> [> Lighten up Poppa. -- BU Guy, 15:19:46 05/01/03 Thu

With all of the bogus over-hyping nonsense and catfights we get from some of the posters on this board, i find it hard to believe a little witicism is so bothersome to you poppa. when someone suggests (with tongue planted in cheek) that sean may or gerry mcnamara even knows that the AE schools field basketball teams, I am required by my sense of sarcasm to respond in kind.

this is a sports message board. lighten up. we're not discussing ways to improve the world or boost the economy. we're primarily discussing basketball, a game!

my job is simply too stressful for me to care whether or not you appreciate a friendly witty barb here or there. i read this board to relax, escape and unwind for a minute or two during my busy work day. if you want to bitch about something, why don't you complain about some of the petty rivalries and outrageous over or under-hyping of recruits from the loveable (most of the time) cast of characters on this board. as for me, i'm fine with it all. it makes my day a little more entertaining, even most of the b.s. posts, because the authors are usually hammered by other, more knowledgable posters.

Credibility? Who are you concerned may be peeking in on this board and being disillusioned by a potential lack of credibility? This is a message board, not a newspaper. I am an average basketball fan, not a hoops guru or analyst. I don't pretend to be an insider. Some posters on this board are more knowledgable than others. It's simply up to the reader to decide who's credible and who's not.

Too many people on this board are stressed out!!!! When some one goes off the deep end HYPING someone the other people on this board should just chuckle, and make their rebuttal.
The only thing that irks me (a little) is when people blast athletes and have no cannon fodder to back it up.
This board should be a way to share some hoop talk and relax. I hate to tell most of you guys but our opinions don't really count for much. The results are in the pudding, let's wait and see who can play and who can't. Remember the players aren't hyping themselves.
Bottom line enjoy yourself and keep in contact with what's going on in the AE.

The poppa wants to send a message to all. Get serious about your basketball forum. If you want to unwind then take a yoga class if your job is stressing you out. Or maybe try meeting a female or two. Good luck and let's clean up this board!

Hey Poppa, you come on this board out of nowhere and start preaching. My question...who are you? What is your extensive basketball knowledge. I guarantee you this...there are probably at least 10 posters on this board who have proven they understand hoops (if not more) and the others either enjoy the board for what it's worth, or are learning more and more each day about basketball and recruiting. What, may i ask is your beef? If you don't like the board then don't come around.

However, if you want to talk X's and O's, offer up something decent. If not, stash the hyperbole!

Well said. Let us know Poppa what you consider proper basketball discussion.

OK....The poppa understands everyones feelings and would like to put a question out there for people with real basketball IQ's. The poppa would like to know what would you do if your best player is a guard and the team you are playing against goes box and 1 on him. Do you run your man stuff or run your zone stuff? Do you let him sit in the corner and try to beat the box by attacking gaps off the dribble, or do you run him off screens and make it a deliberate point just to get him the ball taking everyone else out of the flow?

I don't have a real Basketball IQ in fact my wife thinks I'm "Brain Dead"!!!!!
Your question sounds simple but is really very complexed.
What you do is based on the abilities of the other 4 players.
But just for a quick possibility if it's a straight Box and 1 you might start him on the foul line and run some straight zone stuff like you were facing a 2-3 zone or if it's a Diamond and 1 run you 1-3-1 stuff.
If your one player is an awesome player and your supporting staff sucks you run some man stuff with a lot of screens.
When you write the hypothetical you have to realize the answers is usually complex. If the answer were simple no one would Box and 1 on you.
As you enter the season with one good player you better spend a lot of time preparing to get shots for that player.

Spring period ends May 15 I believe. Grant-in-aids are still allowed after that though.

I posted about some wing players BU were recruiting a few days ago. Look about 3/4 down this page.

My guess is that BU wants to sign one and float the final scholarship in case Sean May or Gerry McNamara wants to transfer. That would mean Brett Gladstone would remain a walk-on. His Dad can afford BU.

I don't think May could cut it in the AE with all the quality big men, and I think Czar would agree Mcnamara is really just a slow Division II type player. Who knows, maybe Albany would take a look at him though.
