Re: Lighten up Poppa. -- Patch, 18:58:58 05/01/03 Thu
Too many people on this board are stressed out!!!! When some one goes off the deep end HYPING someone the other people on this board should just chuckle, and make their rebuttal.
The only thing that irks me (a little) is when people blast athletes and have no cannon fodder to back it up.
This board should be a way to share some hoop talk and relax. I hate to tell most of you guys but our opinions don't really count for much. The results are in the pudding, let's wait and see who can play and who can't. Remember the players aren't hyping themselves.
Bottom line enjoy yourself and keep in contact with what's going on in the AE.

Re: Signings? -- poppa, 14:03:36 05/02/03 Fri
OK....The poppa understands everyones feelings and would like to put a question out there for people with real basketball IQ's. The poppa would like to know what would you do if your best player is a guard and the team you are playing against goes box and 1 on him. Do you run your man stuff or run your zone stuff? Do you let him sit in the corner and try to beat the box by attacking gaps off the dribble, or do you run him off screens and make it a deliberate point just to get him the ball taking everyone else out of the flow?

Re: Signings? -- Patch, 14:15:20 05/02/03 Fri
I don't have a real Basketball IQ in fact my wife thinks I'm "Brain Dead"!!!!!
Your question sounds simple but is really very complexed.
What you do is based on the abilities of the other 4 players.
But just for a quick possibility if it's a straight Box and 1 you might start him on the foul line and run some straight zone stuff like you were facing a 2-3 zone or if it's a Diamond and 1 run you 1-3-1 stuff.
If your one player is an awesome player and your supporting staff sucks you run some man stuff with a lot of screens.
When you write the hypothetical you have to realize the answers is usually complex. If the answer were simple no one would Box and 1 on you.
As you enter the season with one good player you better spend a lot of time preparing to get shots for that player.

Re: Signings? -- BU Guy, 10:46:29 04/30/03 Wed
I don't think May could cut it in the AE with all the quality big men, and I think Czar would agree Mcnamara is really just a slow Division II type player. Who knows, maybe Albany would take a look at him though.
