The Globe has what can best be described as a passing interest in covering college sports.

Many of the college reports, especially Blaudschun, are filled with errors and display just plain shoddy research throughout the year. It's like they listen to a bunch of stuff and then just write from memory later on.

Latest example: Blaudschun's report on OU's Kevin Bookout. There were at least three things wrong in the short article. Biggest being that Bookout holds the national high school record in the shot put and discus. He doesn't.

I heard someone (on TV, I think) say that earlier this season and there was a subsequent correction (He had the best efforts in both during his senior year last year). Even the OU media guide says that. If he were the national record-holder, I'm pretty sure they'd list that. All it would take is a minute of research.

Hockey, basketball, basketball, hockey. Just make it up as you go along because all Boston cares about is pro sports anyway. Pretty good gig, I'd say. No expectations, no delivery.

By the way, the fact that Rickey White shattered the all-time AE season record for single-season field goal percentage still hasn't even rated a mention in the state's supposed largest newspaper in Portland. And he went to high school in Maine.

By the way, great job Boston with the sub-regional at the FleetCenter. Good support, good coverage in the papers. Boston ought to be in the regular rotation at least every other year.

Worcester in 2005? What's the deal with that NU Hoop Fan. By the way, I checked the places you recommended and they were mobbed, so we ended up at Lo Conte on Salem Street between sessions. Great meal.

Worcester put in a successful bid to host the first and second round in 2003 and was pushed back to 2005 because Boston bullied their way in with a strong performance in 1999. Hey, I've got a client across the street from the Centrum, it works for me. I think that could be the last year Worcester hosts, however. The Centrum is dumpy, and they'd sell more seats in Boston anyway. Hartford, Providence and Worcester WERE great places in New England to have the tourney, but when you can bang the Fleet Center for 19K fans for each of the 3 sessions, the NCAA will be back.

Boston put in a bid to host the Regionals in 2006, but because they were awarded the Women's Final Four in 2006, they didn't want to have all of that activity in Boston in a short period, so the bid was rejected.

I'm told a bid is being put together to host the East Regional in 2007. At a minimum, Boston will host the first and second round in 2007. I think Boston's going to be a part of the regular rotation. Everyone I talked to in the non-Boston media said that Boston was the best site in 1999, and was once again a GREAT venue in 2003. I think the location is perfect. The atmosphere around the Garden before and between games was amazing.

Keep in mind, Boston has the Frozen Four next year, so there's a "major" event at the Fleet in 2003, 2004 and 2006, and probably 2007. I really can't complain about that.

Parking was miserable, I got to the first game on Friday afternoon late because I had to park in the Financial District and walk over.

The games ended at a bad time as well, as the 5 pm end time corresponded with Friday rush hour.

Between games was great. We went to Saraceno's for dinner. Lo Conte's is my wife's favorite, VL.. glad you enjoyed.

I'm pretty sure he does in the shotput. I actually follow follow track and field quite a bit. Either way, that guy's an incredible athlete. Mr. Basketball in Oklahoma, national champion in the shot put and discus, national record holder in the discus, and he also has a fastball in the 90's as a pitcher in baseball. I believe he's concentrating on basketball and track at Oklahoma, though.

Van, you made it to my favorite restaurant in Boston! I'm jealous as I haven't been since my youngest was born 41/2 years ago........now my turn to attempt to make you jealous. i'm off thursday to the final four in new orleans--staying at the same hotel that is hosting the NABC and have passes to virtually every coaches event. my wife "done good" for a 40th birthday present, didn't she. she's a keeper.

i'll see if, after being soused with many drinks, i can get some skinny for the board.......au revoir mes amis!

Have a great trip Roz.

Ain't nothing like the three weekends of the NCAA tourney and ain't nothing like the Final Four. And, ain't no place in America like New Orleans.

My daughter, trooper that she is, made the trip to Boston and has adopted Syracuse and Carmelo. So we'd like to see the 'Cuse do it.

As for Lo Conte, after we finished, my daughter proclaimed her pasta dish was the best she's ever eaten. If you can make an 8-year-old notice what he/she is eating ... that's high praise.

Have a good bowl of gumbo for me.
