 Hi Olga! I just talked with my co-worker two days ago and thought of you. She also helped to give baths to smaller boys in her pioneer camp in 1970s. She tells that it was almost everywhere in those times, she visited three different camps and in all of them was this practice. The only difference were the age range of malyshey and of "bathing teams". She also told that there was a common situation when there were some familiar boys among the little ones - she often met there the boys from her yard and from her school, couple of times her two cousins and once even her classmate!
