I should clarify that even though I think they're overrated, I certainly don't dislike them, and find their history interesting (same as any other band, I guess).

The only time Ringo was replaced was just after Pete Best got fired. George Martin hired session drummer Andy White to drum on the "Love Me Do" single recording. Ringo turned up to the session expecting to drum, but was told curtly by Martin that Andy White would be playing the session, as Martin had no idea who Starr was. Starr did play on the recording of "Love Me Do", which is on the "Please, Please Me" LP.

George was far from a great guitar player, but he improved over the years. He certainly found his niche when he started playing with a slide. Paul was a much better lead guitarist - one only has to listen to "Taxman" to know this.

Other bands about at the time such as Johnny Kidd and the Pirates (the Green; Spence, and Farley lineup) and The Kinks were are lot better, and certainly better musicians than The Beatles were.
