G'day Lother,

The words could be shortened from other words - "part" could have been trimmed from "apart"; "never" from "nevermind", for example. There is the possibility that some echo could have been added to hide the joins, but you'd have to wonder why whoever made it didn't bother putting it over the top of the rest.

I'm not sure what the motivation was of making the 30 second "demo". Perhaps it was to give us a glimpse at how it might have sounded had such a recording existed or survived. I'd hazard a guess that it's only 30 seconds long due to the work involved in splicing it together. I think the chorus would have been very difficult to make convincing, as no doubt Buddy would have projected more vocally, rather than singing softly.

One thing to bear in mind is that "Stay Close" was recorded around the time of the apartment tapes, so a demo made by Buddy of the song would sound very similar to the others he recorded at the time. The is no doubt in my mind that he would have recorded it in his New York apartment.

Cheers,

Lachlan
